PhD Students

Our laboratory is continuously considering applications by prospective PhD students, to work in one of the following areas:

  • Dynamical systems approach to turbulence
  • Nonlinear shell buckling
  • Multiphase flow at small scales

  • Doctoral Program

    These positions require acceptance in either the Doctoral Program in Physics or Mechanics for which you should apply simultaneously when submitting your application to the laboratory.

  • Do I need to speak French?

    No – while EPFL ls located in the French speaking part of Switzerland, English is the standard working language. Nevertheless learning French makes life more enjoyable in Romandy. EPFL offers free French courses for international students.

  • Can I apply with a BA degree?

    In general a Master’s degree is required. However, in exceptional cases, EPFL may offer admission at the BA level for suitable very highly qualified candidates.

 

Master Students

We are happy to host master students to carry out their master project (final thesis) in our lab. External students from selected international universities may apply for a prestigious EPFL research internship. A regular exchange program is open to students from many more universities.

Please include your CV and transcripts, together with a short statement about your research interests as a single pdf file. We expect Master students to be actively involved in the group and significantly contribute to the lab’s research. Consequently project durations of less than 9 months are not advisable.

Postdoctoral Fellows

Highly motivated individuals with an outstanding PhD degree and an internationally competitive early-career track record may directly contact Prof. Schneider via email to discuss postdoc opportunities. Please include your CV, publication list and a short (max 1 page) description of your research interests and / or project ideas.

While internally funded positions may be available, potential candidates are strongly encouraged to consider external funding sources.
